On Swan Mountain Road between Breck and Keystone you will find the most amazing views of the Dillon Reservoir.
Once you get to the lakes there are some really incredible views of the valley below. It takes you past a serine forest, a series of cascading waterfalls, green meadows with wildflowers and beautiful high alpine lakes. McCullough Gulch is a moderate hike, with pleasant views the whole time. Catch your breath and take in the majestic view of the resort. If you need a break halfway up the stairs you will find a little wooden bench. Head up the Carter Park trail, it is best to take the long set of stairs (mountain bikers come ripping down the switchbacks). Park at or walk to the south end of High Street by the dog park. You can take this short and sweet hike right from town. The main trailhead is just eight miles south of Breckenridge down Route 9. Once you get to the top of the 14,265ft peak you’ve earned the amazing view. It is one of Colorado’s fourteeners (peaks above 14,000 feet), the highest peak in the Tenmile Range and the thirteenth highest peak in the state. The higher you go the better the view! If you’re feeling ambitious, challenge yourself by climbing up to Quandary Peak to soak in one of the best views in Summit County.
